Known as the 'Monarch of the Glen' due to the majestic antlers of the stag, the Red deer (Cervus elaphus) passes the summer on high ground and the winter in lower-lying areas and floodplains where food is easier to find. A magnificent stag in its natural habitat calls out on the coin's obverse, while the proud male stands guard over his family amid dense woodland on its reverse.
