Pope John Paul I (Albino Luciani Forno di Canale - Belluno, 17 October 1912) was born in a family of humble origins. This year marks the centenary of his birth. The Philatelic and Numismatic Office would like to pay homage to the "smiling Pope" with a postage stamp issue showing him with that famous expression.
